Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included with CataTrain?

CataTrain includes the reusable training platform, a simulated nucleus, anterior and posterior capsulorhexis training components, an artificial iris for iris-handling exercises, and 100+ capsulorhexis inserts for repeated practice. The platform also allows you to practice corneal incisions, nucleus rotation and chopping techniques, bimanual coordination and other key steps of cataract surgery. A 15-exercise progressive training guide is also included.
Microsurgical instruments, forceps and additional materials required for some exercises are not included.

Is CataTrain suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. CataTrain was designed around progressive practice. You can start with basic instrument handling and bimanual dexterity exercises before progressing to capsulorhexis, iris manipulation, incisions and nucleus-handling techniques. The included 15-exercise guide allows you to increase difficulty as your microsurgical skills improve.

How do I access the 15 free training exercises?

Every CataTrain kit includes access to our 15 progressive training exercises, designed to take you from basic bimanual dexterity to cataract-specific surgical skills. Simply scan the QR code included with your kit to access the training guide.

Can I perform phacoemulsification on the nucleus?

The CataTrain nucleus is designed to practice nucleus manipulation, rotation, grooving concepts, chopping and fragmentation techniques. Actual phacoemulsification is not recommended, as the simulated nucleus is not designed to be emulsified using ultrasound. CataTrain cannot be held responsible for damage to phacoemulsification equipment or instruments resulting from use of the simulator outside its intended purpose.

Where is CataTrain made?

CataTrain is designed and manufactured in Spain. The project was created by an ophthalmology resident looking for a simple way to practice cataract surgery repeatedly without relying on expensive simulation systems. The goal is straightforward: make microsurgical training more accessible, repeatable and affordable for residents and surgeons who want to keep improving.
